The fire broke out on the third floor and was seen shooting through the roof of Woodbridge Center Plaza on Plaza Drive just before 5:45 a.m. A woman who didn't want to be identified, lived in the third-floor apartment directly above the fire.
She says she and her parents tried to use a fire extinguisher on flames licking up from below, until it wasn't safe to stay. Woodbridge firefighters were joined by several mutual aid companies to tackle the fire that was quickly spreading. But police officers were first to arrive.Because of those officers, everyone made it out of the building uninjured. There was not even a cut or scrape that needed tending to. First responders executed a seamless rescue effort. "The fire department came within five minutes," a resident said. They were able to put it down in two minutes, they did an amazing job." There's more work ahead for some of the crew so that fire investigators can get in and do a thorough job of trying to figure out how the fire started. The building contained 16 units with approximately 50 residents. The Red Cross responded to the scene to assist them. The township is working with the management office at the Woodbridge Center Plaza apartment complex, collecting supplies for the families. The Red Cross is also accepting donations.
