A high-speed crash has left one person and a dog dead and three others injured in West Philadelphia.

Friday, April 17, 2026 3:03PMOne person and a dog were killed after the vehicle they were in was t-boned by a speeding SUV early Friday morning in West Philadelphia.

Police say the crash happened after the driver of a Dodge Durango ran a red light at the intersection of South 48th and Walnut streets around 4 a.m.

After being struck, the victim's car slammed into four parked vehicles on 48th Street. One of those vehicles ended up landing on the sidewalk against a home.

Police say a 25-year-old male driver, a 23-year-old male passenger and a 22-year-old passenger were inside the Durango at the time of the crash. All three were taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center with minor injuries.

'I just heard the collision. It sounded like boom, boom, boom, boom. I knew it was about five or six cars right from the rip,' said Avery Kirk from West Philadelphia.

Chopper 6 was over the scene where you can see the heavily damaged Durango in the middle of the street and debris scattered all across the roadway.

Police say the Dodge Durango has not been reported stolen at this time.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
