Blythedale marks milestone departures with what it calls a 'clap out,' a tradition Bryce has often supported when friends were released. On Thursday, it was his turn.

The 6-year-old has spent the past year and a half at Blythedale Children's Hospital, where staff say his presence has resonated widely during his treatment. "I think his personality has helped staff, his fellow patients.

He's a ray of sunshine," said Dr. Twana Jackson of Blythedale Children's Hospital. Bryce has been receiving therapeutic support for Prader-Willi syndrome, a rare genetic disorder he was born with. His care also has included treatment following respiratory failure after a bout with RSV and adjusting to a tracheostomy to help him breathe better. "He's come a long, long way - talking, walking better, interacting with friends. He's been amazing," said his mother, Isha Hickson. Thursday, it was his turn."I am excited to have him home as it's been a year. I'm sad that he's leaving all these great people, but I'm happy that he's coming home," Hickson said.
