For the first time in 20 years, a cruise ship is docking in the Philadelphia area.

Thursday, April 16, 2026 11:23AMFor the first time in 20 years, a cruise ship is docking in the Philadelphia area.in Tinicum Township, Delaware County. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker will join representatives from Norwegian Cruise Line and PhilaPort to mark the occasion on Thursday.

The Norwegian Jewel can accommodate 2,300 guests. The first passengers are expected to leave on Thursday afternoon and will spend a day at sea before arriving in Bermuda. After that, it's onto a port call in Charleston, South Carolina, before heading back along the eastern seaboard to Philadelphia for a seven-day cruise. This summer, the Jewel will set sail from Philadelphia to Bermuda and then head north to Halifax, Canada, before returning. By fall, longer cruises will be available through New England ports, such as Boston and Maine, eventually going all the way to Quebec City.

However, the new PhilaPort facility in Tinicum Township near Philadelphia International Airport is not yet ready.will now occur at an airport hotel, and then guests will board shuttle buses to the port to board the ship.

The initiative is expected to create 2,100 jobs and $295 million in economic impact for the Commonwealth.
