Police say two sisters found over 14,000 individual bags of fentanyl inside two grocery bags in the woods in New Castle County on Sunday.
Authorities say an 18-year-old and her 12-year-old sister were walking through the woods around 5:30 p.m. when they came upon the bags filled with illegal narcotics. 'When I seen those bags, I was like, that is definitely something I've seen at school learning about,' the older sister tells Action News. 'So I was like, we need to call the cops right this minute. We're not touching anything else.'
'We found a little bit of drugs at first, and then we went deeper into the woods and found these bags, and they were heavy, so we were kind of curious,' she said. 'Opened it up and found that it was full of those little bags we originally found, and there was a lot more.'
Investigators suspect the pair stumbled across a pickup point, where a drug dealer or a distributor would have retrieved the fentanyl.
'It's unbelievable. People walk all along that bridge all the time,' said one neighbor.
'One pin head of fentanyl can kill a person, and here we're talking about over 14,000 bags,' said Master Corporal Richard Chambers.
Investigators are now trying to determine where the drugs came from and how they got there.
