Nearly 20 cars were vandalized in the parking lot of an apartment building in Linden, New Jersey on Monday, and several more were reportedly found in Cranford. Police say 19 vehicles were vandalized at Brookside Gardens on South Wood Avenue in Linden sometime between 3:30 and 4 a.
m. Police said someone threw heavy stone pavers at cars parked on the street, shattering windshields, damaging vehicles and causing expensive headaches for many residents. Tenants at Brookside Gardens came out in the morning to discover the violation, and in some cases, the pavers sliced through the glass.The victims say all the repair costs will come out of pocket. "I'm just really saddened to be honest with you like this would happen on our holiday when we're all trying to get together and celebrate and be happy," Erin Goldfeder said.Detectives believe that a single suspect is responsible for the damage, as well as similar crimes in other parts of the city, and in other towns throughout Union County.The Cranford Police Department said they took about seven criminal mischief reports involving vehicles with smashed windshields near Cayuga Road and Centennial Avenue.
