A suspect allegedly killed a man in a brutal beating caught on video before carjacking a grandmother's SUV on the city's South Side on Monday night, according to law enforcement and police documents. Surveillance camera footage from the scene shows two people standing at a CTA bus stop near 95th and Halsted.The video shows the 76-year-old victim hitting the suspect, but there is no audio, and it is unclear what led up to that point. The man then punches the victim and shoves him to the ground. ABC7 paused the video there because it is too disturbing. But the suspect goes on to beat and kick the victim multiple times, before eventually walking away. Chicago police responded to the area around 9:15 p.m. and found the victim on the ground with apparent trauma to the headAccording to a police report obtained by the ABC7 I-Team, that same suspect then carjacked an SUV from a nearby McDonald's. A 60-year-old grandmother says she was inside the restaurant when the man got inside her vehicle while her grandkids, a 3-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy, were in the backseat, and threatened to shoot them.Police in Schererville, Indiana tracked the SUV down there and took the suspect into custody. Ronnie Mosley, who represents the 21st Ward, where the attack took place, called it a "heartbreaking and senseless act of violence," adding that there are mental health resources available in his community.
