The fire was first reported near the intersection of Patterson Pass and Midway roads and had consumed about 260 acres as of about 4:40 p.m., according to Cal Fire. Four structures are threatened by the blaze and crews are working hard to protect them, said Cal Fire spokesperson Chelsea Burkett. Dry conditions, combined with gusty winds, are driving the fire.In addition to ground crews and eight fire engines, Cal Fire reported that six fixed-wing aircraft and one helicopter were responding to the fire. Winds in the area are reportedly blowing from the west, pushing the fire towards Tracy, and clocking in at between about 30 mph to about 40 mph. The Midway Fire, as it's being called, was first reported to be about 2 acres at a little before 3 p.m. and then reported as about 30 acres with a moderate to dangerous rate of spread at about 3:20 p.m., according to the Firefighters Association. Crews reportedly requested that I-580 between Interstate Highway 205 and Patterson Pass Road be closed to traffic.Copyright 2025 by Bay City News, Inc.
