Troopers say woman was hiding in home connected to burglary case that led to major property recovery.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - An Anchor Point woman’s arrest inside a Kutafya Road home on April 26 led investigators to a second residence days later, where troopers say they found 15 stolen guns and other missing property valued at more than $25,000, according to court records and Alaska State Troopers.
The two cases are tied together through the same burglary investigation and through statements by both defendants that reference the same third person, who has not been charged in the court records reviewed for this story. Cerina P. Richards, 29, was arrested April 26 and charged with first-degree burglary and fourth-degree theft. According to a trooper affidavit, law enforcement responded to a report of a suspicious person entering a residence on Kutafya Road in Anchor Point.
The property owner told troopers no one had permission to be there. Troopers and a Homer police officer searched the house and found Richards hiding beneath a pile of household items in a bedroom after repeatedly announcing their presence while clearing the residence, the affidavit states. Investigators also found a small pipe wrench in her back pants pocket, and Richards later told troopers she had picked it up from inside the home, according to the charging documents.
In that affidavit, Richards told investigators that a man had dropped her off at the residence and told her the home belonged to his uncle and that she had been asked to clean it. In a later affidavit tied to a separate case, troopers identified the same man as a central figure in the movement of stolen property.
On May 4, troopers served a search warrant at a North Fork Road residence in Anchor Point as part of the same investigation. Wade L. Wunderlich, 23, was then charged with first-degree theft and 15 counts of second-degree theft involving firearms, according to court records. According to the affidavit, investigators recovered 15 guns, including pistols, rifles and shotguns, along with collectible coins, a commercial-grade toolbox, a large number of tools and fishing gear.
Troopers estimated the value of the recovered property at more than $25,000. Wunderlich told troopers the items had been brought to his home by the same man mentioned in Richards’ case and admitted he was suspicious the property was stolen, according to the affidavit. The document also states that two firearms had allegedly been promised to him if “everything worked out,” and that he later reported being threatened after Richards was arrested.
The affidavit further states that some of the recovered guns matched descriptions and serial numbers provided by the victim, and that property connected to the victim’s late husband was found throughout the home. Troopers have said the investigation is ongoing and that additional charges are possible. But while the same third person is named in both affidavits, the court records reviewed by Alaska’s News Source show no charges filed against him in either case.
As in all criminal cases, the charges against Richards and Wunderlich are allegations, and both are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
