Too many are vulnerable as costs keep rising. Donate to Season for Sharing to help.
Each year, IndyStar’s Season for Sharing campaign and the Our Children initiative use the power of local journalism to support Central Indiana's youth. Here's how you can help.On a recent weekend, a national media outlet sent a news push alert to my phone that threw me for a loop, so I clicked it to read.
, and that’s on top of a 17% spike last year. The situation has become so dire, the report said, that some families are foregoing heating their home. I knew inflation was bad, the worst in my adult life, but the idea of turning off my heat in the winter because it’s too expensive? It’s a dilemma many of us likely haven’t faced before. But indeed, times are that hard, and people are making that choice. At IndyStar, we don’t want Central Indiana’s families and children to make the kind of choice where a basic need ― just to be warm in your own home ― is sacrificed because of the cost of living.IndyStar is kicking off its annual Season for Sharing campaign so the news organization, with the help of our readers like you, can alleviate the burdens our economy has put upon too many families across Central Indiana. The fundraising period begins Thanksgiving and ends Dec. 31. The mission of the annual Season for Sharing campaign now under IndyStar’s Our Children initiative is to harness the power of journalism and our reach as a newsroom to make a difference for Central Indiana’s youth. Since 1994, together we have raised more than $2 million. This is a favorite campaign of mine at IndyStar because of the impact it has directly on our neighbors and the well-being of the next generation. This year, grants will be awarded to organizations that have gone above and beyond in serving Central Indiana youth organizations, particularly in Marion County. Because of the generosity of our donors, we awarded $150,000 in 2020 to support Black and brown youth and families and $120,000 in 2021 to support families during the COVID-19 pandemic. Please donate. The Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust will generously match donations up to $25,000.I appreciate you working with us to make Indianapolis a better place.
