sheds new light on the genesis of the most Dallas of all ZZ songs: “Tush.” The band’s only hit sung solely by, “Tush” is two minutes of carnal metal-boogie accented by the seemingly random phrase “I’ve been bad, I’ve been good / Dallas Texas, Hollywood.”the lyric was his nod to growing up near Fair Park. “In my neighborhood in Dallas, ‘tush’ was a term we used to mean kind of like ‘plush’ and ‘tushy,’ ” he said, referring to a forerunner of “booty.
’ We immediately scripted the impromptu lines in a cool three minutes … Done,” Gibbons said.“Tush” was the band’s first Top 20 hit and eventually became its big show-closing number. When Hill died in 2021 at age 72 , ZZ Top retired “Tush” from its shows, except for a handful of beyond-the-grave versions featuring Hill’s lusty yowl on tape.
