The mum of two was so pleased with Zumba, that after a single class she decided to train to become an instructor herself
A Nottingham mum has shared how Zumba helped her transform her life after being diagnosed with severe postnatal depression. In 2010 Charmaine Davey, 45, better known as Charm, had her second child and the Nottingham mum was struggling with her mental health and struck by postnatal depression.
Charm explained: "It took 9 months to harness the courage to go to a Zumba class.” However, following her first visit, she explained: “I looked around me and there were women of all shapes, sizes, abilities, ages but each wore a big smile. Finally, I fit in.”After this visit Charm was hooked and quickly lost three and a half stone and started enjoying the mental health benefits. She added: “It was, is, my therapy. I found ‘Charm’ again.
After getting involved with Get Out Get Active, which is a UK programme to bring the least active people in society together to become more active, she started to deliver feel-good Zumba sessions within the city.
