Zotac, a graphics card manufacturer, is combating GPU scalping by offering its RTX 5080 and 5090 cards through a direct-to-consumer raffle system.
The Nvidia RTX 50-series GPU s, particularly the high-end RTX 5090 , have been plagued by a severe supply shortage since their launch. This scarcity has driven opportunistic resellers to inflate prices, often charging four times the MSRP of $2,000 for the RTX 5090 . In response, Zotac , a smaller graphics card manufacturer, has implemented a novel solution to combat scalping: a direct-to-consumer raffle system.
Rather than relying on traditional digital storefronts, Zotac sells its RTX 5080 and 5090 cards exclusively through a raffle for its U.S. Discord server members. To participate, individuals must demonstrate their authenticity by actively engaging in the community, posting messages, and participating in discussions. Spamming or low-effort contributions will not be counted. The raffle system operates on a random basis, giving every eligible participant an equal chance to purchase a card at the manufacturer's suggested retail price. Zotac keeps track of serial numbers to prevent immediate resale at inflated prices and ensures that only one card per household is awarded. Participants are notified after the raffle and informed of the final cost.
