With the clock ticking, city outreach workers are now racing to connect these residents with housing
A longstanding group of RV dwellers faces a fresh deadline Wednesday to leave a road running along the edge of the San Francisco Zoo.
Those who applied during a Monday afternoon tabling event expressed relief as they got ready for tours of their possible new dwellings, which would be paid for with housing vouchers that will cover rental expenses for two or three years. Other households had spent the morning hustling to avoid a 72-hour parking limit, shuffling their RVs from one spot to another as a red tow truck cruised along the street.
“ concerned about that because we want people to have some stability, to be able to access resources like housing,” said Eleana Binder, a policy manager with service and advocacy nonprofit Glide. “This kind of stress and uncertainty is definitely difficult for the families and it’s also challenging for service providers because we’re trying to support them.”
It also raises the possibility that some families who had been living on Winston Drive will miss out on The City’s offer of housing.
