President Trump admitted his disappointment Wednesday morning after the election wipeout for Republicans in New Jersey, Virginia and New York City . 'We had that big, beautiful victory exactly one year ago,' Trump told Republican senators at a White House breakfast.
'And last night it was, you know, not expected to be a victory. It was very Democrat areas. But I don't think it was good for Republicans. I'm not sure it was good for anybody.' Trump said 'we had an interesting evening, and we learned a lot, and we're going to talk about that, and I'll say a few remarks, and then after that, I'll ask the press to leave.' The president swiftly moved on to speaking at length about his demand that Senate Republicans end the filibuster to resolve the 36-day partial government shutdown. Trump on Tuesday night wrote on Truth Social that his absence from the ballot and the shutdown were to blame for the easy victories of Democratic Gov.-elects Mikie Sherrill in New Jersey and Abigail Spanberger in Virginia, along with the triumph of socialist Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani in New York City over Trump-endorsed former Gov.
