“I wanted to do right by the Mugler brand,” Ziwe says of her dramatic runway strut.
Ziwe can certainly talk the talk. The mononymous New York comedian carved out a distinctive lane for herself through grilling celebrities on third rail topics such as race, politics, and gender on Instagram Live, and later, a late-night talk show on Showtime. Her interview style pulls no punches. “Are there any marginalised communities you want to apologise to?” she once asked Chet Hanks, who has repeatedly faced claims of cultural appropriation.
How did you prepare for the catwalk? You hang out with Emily Ratajkowski. Did she give you any catwalk tips beforehand? Honestly I just watched a lot of TikTok videos. I watched EmRata on TikTok, I watched Shalom [Harlow], Naomi [Campbell], and I just googled all of the supers. I tried to imitate them as best as I could. There was also a really nice walking coach named Mona, from Amsterdam, who gave me a couple of tips as well. Like keeping my hands to the side. Keeping them alive, but not forceful.
Ugh, god. That’s a good question. Probably the one where Eva the Diva won after her panic attack with the spider on her face. That’s very old school. I also liked the “talls versus smalls” season.
