Zeekr, a Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, has achieved a groundbreaking feat by developing an EV battery that charges from 10% to 80% in just nine minutes and 45 seconds. This record-breaking charging speed, powered by the company's 'Golden Battery' technology and a proprietary ultra-fast charging network, addresses key concerns about EV adoption and sets a new benchmark for the industry.
A Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, Zeekr , has made a significant breakthrough in EV charging technology. Their latest model, the Zeekr 7X, equipped with the 800-volt ‘ Golden Battery ’, boasts a record-breaking charging speed, capable of reaching 80% charge in just nine minutes and 45 seconds. This remarkable feat was achieved through real-world tests, confirming the battery's capabilities in replicating its earlier lab results.
The Zeekr 7X, featuring a 75 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery, showcases Zeekr's commitment to pushing the boundaries of EV charging technology.Zeekr's 840kW-rated charger, one of the most powerful globally, played a crucial role in this record-breaking performance. During testing, the 7X SUV charged at 200kW before surging to a peak of 460kW, maintaining an impressive average of 400kW. This charging speed rivals the refueling times of gasoline vehicles, significantly addressing a key concern hindering EV adoption. The company's proprietary charging network further amplifies this advantage, enabling the 7X SUV to recharge from 0% to 100% in just 19 minutes. This rapid charging capability translates to gaining 21 miles (33.7 kilometers) of range per minute of charging, meaning a mere four minutes could add a substantial 85 miles (136.6 kilometers). In comparison, Tesla's Model 3, with its 15-minute charging option, can only achieve a range of 175 miles (282 km), which is less than half its full range. Zeekr's accomplishment in charging an EV to 80% SOC in nearly 10 minutes signifies a major leap forward in the EV charging landscape.Zeekr's commitment to innovation extends beyond its fast-charging technology. Their latest EVs utilize lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs, replacing the conventional nickel-cobalt-manganese batteries commonly found in most EVs. This strategic shift contributes to the improved safety and longevity of the batteries. Additionally, Zeekr's in-house e-powertrain team has developed the third generation (V3) of its ultra-fast charging piles, further accelerating the charging process. The advanced battery management system (BMS) integrated into Zeekr's vehicles ensures a stable and reliable charging experience, even in extreme conditions. Despite the challenges posed by low temperatures, Zeekr claims its latest battery can still achieve a 10% to 80% charge in 30 minutes, even in freezing conditions as low as 14°F (-10°C). Zeekr is actively expanding its charging infrastructure, currently operating 500 ultra-fast charging stations among 2,700 total charging piles across China. The company aims to double this number within the year and reach a target of 10,000 charging piles by 2026. With its rapidly developing fast-charging network, Zeekr is poised to address the critical concerns surrounding charging speed and accessibility, paving the way for wider EV adoption globally.
