Embattled former Durban mayor Zandile Gumede, who rakes in more than a million rand a year as a member of the KwaZulu-Natal legislature, has been forced to dip into her pension fund to pay her lawyers in her fraud and corruption trial.
Gumede is accused of using her political influence as mayor to garner more than R300 million in Durban Solid Waste contracts for specific companies and businesspeople.
