Zahara alleged in an interview last week that the record label owed her money.

TS Records, a record label that DJ Sbu and Thembinkosi Nciza used to own, has responded to allegations made by Zahara on Metro FM last week. In an emotional interview, Zahara said the record label owed her millions for her album sales and performances. She said she would for for “months” without being paid, and as a result, she could not keep up with her bills.

She said: “I was gigging even during the week and I could save and invest. In 2012 I became the Nedbank ambassador and even with that money, where was it going? TS. They would pay me that one time when they have been paid, it never came straight from Nedbank into my account. Even my relationship with brands has been tarnished because of this thing with the label. I did not want to go and work because why would I go if I would have to beg for my money.

But TS Records said Zahara has been paid for her hit albums Loliwe, Phendula and Country Girl and continues to receive royalties. “These records were released through EMI South Africa and then through Universal Music. To the best of TS Records’ knowledge, Zahara and the producer of the above albums were paid and continue to receive all forms of royalties that are due t them. Publishing works belonging to Zahara are all owned by her in her own personal capacity and have been continuously paid by our publishing partners Sheer into her own personal banking accounts.
