Collaboration with German Capricorn Group will yield 19 cars 'focused on pure driving engagement'

Zagato has been responsible for the design of dozens of iconic cars and concepts over the years, from Aston Martin to Lancia and BMW to Volvo. It’s also been embarking on some really cool low-volume projects of late, cars like the.

But there’s one thing Zagato has never brought to production in its century and a bit of existence: a hypercar. That’s all set to change with this machine, the ‘ultimate driver-focused hypercar’ that’s to be revealed in full next month. Zahato has teamed up with German company Capricorn Group, the latter specialising in carbon fibre production, but also engine components ‘for global motorsport, niche OEM automotive, aftermarket, and aerospace clients.’ Which sounds absolutely perfect for a car that’s surely going to be powered by some wild multi-cylinder engine and produced in miniscule volume: just 19 will be made by Capricorn. Zagato, of course, will provide the body, one promising ‘emotionally impactful design artistry’. The teaser doesn’t give away much beyond the gullwing doors, actual physical wing mirrors and what looks like a prominent dash binnacle for the driver, but one of the most famous design houses creating its own mid-engined exotic does set the expectations pretty high. The infrastructure is already in place for selling the Capricorn-Zagato hypercar, too, with all to be marketed through the Louyet Group; it’s going to be offered to their VIP customers first, and expects them all to find homes soon enough. While the price is very much of the ‘if you have to ask’ kind, it isn’t every day that Zagato embarks on something like this. They surely won’t struggle for 19 billionaires to part with another seven-figure sum. Capricorn’s founder and CEO Robertino Wild said of the tie-up: “This hypercar is not only about chasing records or following trends. It’s about bringing together German engineering discipline, Italian design flair, and a shared belief in what a true driver’s car should really stand for. The result is something that speaks quietly but leaves a lasting impression.” A match made in heaven by the sounds of it. Andrea Zagato reckons the new car “redefines the standards of emotional design and driving”, both of which he’d know something about. Following a full debut at the Zoute Grand Prix on October 10th, production will kick off at the start of next year.
