'I always laugh that in Star Wars...'
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Zack Snyder says Rebel Moon will avoid one common complaint about Star Wars always rushing back to Tatooine. Snyder's sci-fi epic began life as a pitch for a more mature Star Wars movie, which was ultimately rejected by Lucasfilm after its sale to Disney. The project eventually landed at Netflix where it will be released in two parts subtitled Child of Fire and The Scargiver starting on December 22.
Long before Rebel Moon's release date later this year, Screen Rant visited the set of Snyder's sci-fi epic where the director talked about how it will avoid one common complaint about Star Wars. Instead of favoring one planet like Tatooine, every world in Rebel Moon will be visually represented in a unique way, whether it's the costumes or terrain. Read what Snyder said below:
We try. I always laugh that in Star Wars, it just so happens that the native costumes of this weird Tatooine, this weird planet in the middle of nowhere, happen to be the fashion of the entire universe. I thought they were very particular. I guess that's fine. When you make a sci-fi movie, it's like, "Okay, well, what is the world? What does the home planet look like? They could all be wearing neon jumpsuits and who knows. There's a million examples. It could be 1984.
Rebel Moon Will Explore Its Planets Equally The recent Rebel Moon trailer revealed a plethora of planets in which the main protagonist, Kora , will scour in search of warriors to join her cause and resist the tyrannical ruling force known as the Mother World. Though Snyder's sci-fi universe consists of numerous worlds, the first film, Rebel Moon: A Child of Fire, will introduce eight of them, with more coming in Part Two and possibly future installments.
With this array of worlds, Rebel Moon will hopefully avoid a similar problem as Star Wars which favored the planet of Tatooine. The franchise has commonly been criticized for relying too heavily on nostalgia by revisiting Tatooine repeatedly. The galaxy far, far away is vast and rich with possibilities, and returning to the same location over and over again limits the creative potential of the storytelling.
