. Locker room cleanout is never fun, especially when it doesn’t involve a World Series trophy. But it is a chance pack up for the offseason and reflect.

The D-backs ace would be third pitcher to win the award in team history along with Randy Johnson and Brandon Webb .and their fans. The D-backs agreed to an extension with manager Torey Lovullo and now, ace Zac Gallen has been named a finalist for the NL Cy Young Award. Gallen is up for the award along with San Diego's Blake Snell and San Francisco's Logan Webb.

The righty was 17-9 in the 2023 regular season with a 3.47 ERA. He started 34 games and pitched 210 innings. He had 220 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.12. Gallen was named the starting pitcher for the National League in the 2023 All-Star Game in Seattle. In the 2023 playoffs, Gallen was 2-3 with a 4.54 ERA. He had 24 strikeouts in 33 and two-thirds innings pitched.

If Gallen wins the Cy Young Award, would be the third pitcher to do so with the Diamondbacks. Randy Johnson won it four times and Brandon Webb won it once . The city of Phoenix is home to five major professional sports league teams; The NFL's Arizona Cardinals, NBA's Phoenix Suns, WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury, MLB's Arizona Diamondbacks and NHL's Arizona Coyotes.

The Cardinals have made the State Farm Stadium in Glendale their home turf and the Footprint Center in downtown Phoenix is home to both the Suns and the Mercury. The Indoor Football League’s Arizona Rattlers also play at the Footprint. Phoenix has a soccer team with the USL's Phoenix Rising FC. The Valley hosts multiple major sporting events on a yearly basis, including college football's Fiesta Bowl and Guaranteed Rate Bowl; the PGA Tour’s highest-attended event, the Waste Management Phoenix Open; NASCAR events each spring and fall; and Cactus League Spring Training.
