Actor Zac Efron responds to the late Matthew Perry's wishes for Efron to play him in a biopic about his life, saying that he feels "honored."

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Zac Efron gives a heartfelt response to the late Matthew Perry’s suggestion that Efron should play him in a biopic. Best known for his role as Chandler in Friends, Perry tragically passed away on October 28 at the age of 54. Efron and Perry once starred together in the film 17 Again, where Efron played a younger version of Perry’s character.

Following Perry’s passing, Efron reveals his reaction to Perry's recent suggestion that Efron play him in a biopic about his life. Per Deadline, Efron mentioned that he was “honored to hear was thinking” of him. Efron went on to speak highly of Perry, who he called his “mentor.” Efron’s full quote is realized below:

I’m honored to hear he was thinking of me to play him. We’ll see. I’d be honored to do it. He was a mentor to me, and we made a really cool film together. I looked up to him, I learned comedic timing from that guy. I mean, when we were filming 17 Again, it was so surreal for me to look across and have him be there, because I’ve learned so much from him, from his whole life.

Will a Matthew Perry Biopic Happen? Prior to his death, Perry had written a bestselling memoir titled Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing: A Memoir. As reported by Perry’s friend Athenna Crosby, Perry had longed to make a film adaptation of this book at some point. Crosby is the one who reported the news that Perry “said that he wanted Zac Efron to play him as a younger version and that he was gonna ask him soon to do that.

The outpouring of love following Perry’s death is one sign that a Perry biopic could actually happen. As Efron said, many other actors have reportedly “learned so much from” Perry and countless others have admired Perry as Chandler in Friends over the years. If a Perry biopic does happen, hopefully, the actor can get his wish post-mortem and have his story acted out by Efron.
