The theme song for the World Games is here, and it's got some big Alabama names in a style reminiscent of 1985's “We Are the World.' Listen to it here.

About 3,600 athletes from more than 100 countries are expected to compete in the games over an 11-day span, in sports such as softball, flag football, gymnastics, sumo wrestling, sport climbing, drone racing and other events.Artists featured on the “Hope of Alabama” track are set to appear at theof the games at Protective Stadium, 1020 24th St. North.

The lineup for the ceremonies also includes Nelly, the Alabama band, Yolanda Adams, Sheila E. and Tony! Toni! Tone! Bootsy Collins -- a Parliament-Funkadelic veteran, space-age bassist and flamboyant bandleader -- will serve as the master of ceremonies.Two versions of “Hope of Alabama” are available in digital form: a full rendition lasting nearly 6 minutes and a radio edit that clocks in at 3:47., artistic director of the World Games.

“‘Hope of Alabama’ brings a fresh voice to the world from a community that has experienced its share of trials, hardship, and tribulations,” Panion said via a press release. “Yet, through its music, represented here by the broad range of artists from the world of rock, country, R&B, gospel and hip-hop, the message of ‘Hope of Alabama’ is one of eternal unity and love to the world, especially in these troubled times.

“As athletes from across the globe descend on Birmingham, Alabama, for the World Games this summer, these Alabamians send them back to their homelands with more than just medals, but with this message: ‘ Hope of Alabama is the hope for all the world. Every man can hold on, every woman, boy, and girl. It is the dawn of the new day, when love is what we bring. Ev’rybody sing, sing, sing!’
