The Padres on Friday reinstated the 38-year-old Darvish from the restricted list and returned to the 15-day injured list. He’d been contending with groin and elbow injuries when the Padres in July moved Darvish to the restricted list while dealing with a personal matter.Darvish will rejoin the team in San Diego on Friday.

He has not pitched since May 29. He is 4-3 with a 3.20 ERA, 53 strikeouts and a 1.07 WHIP over 11 starts this year . To make room for Darvish on the 40-man roster, infielder Matthew Batten was designated for assignment.
