The Padres' Yu Darvish throws seven shutout innings at Dodgers, extending scoreless streak to 18 innings, tied for his career best
With some tightness in his neck, Yu Darvish backed off for two weeks last month. He’s been accelerating ever since. The 37-year-old veteran blanked the Dodgers over seven innings in a 4-0 win Sunday, extending his scoreless innings streak to a career-high-tying 18 as the Padres claimed a second straight series against the NL West favorites. Including the two-game split in the Seoul Series, the Padres have won five of their first eight meetings against Los Angeles.
The only other hit that Darvish allowed was Mookie Betts’ one-out double in the sixth, which he stranded with a Freddie Freeman flyout and a Will Smith strikeout. After striking out the last two batters of the seventh, Max Muncy and Pages, Darvish walked off the mound as the Friar Faithful portion of a sellout crowd of 43,881 to bellowed “Yuuuuuuuuuuuuuu” in celebration.
