Well, that's one way to test out a new Apple feature...

" was not revealed during the tech giant's recent livestreamed event, Apple did debut the new iPhone 14. Some critics panned the iPhone 14 for being too similar to the previous model—which iPhone isn't?—but one new feature that stood out to us is. Apple touts that the new iPhone 14 uses its GPS and accelerometer to detect if the user has been in an car accident.

It appears that they used straps to connect a wireless electric skateboard motor to the throttle of the Mercury so that they could accelerate the car remotely, though it also appears as though they had no provisions for a braking device. They brought the car out into a field along with the shells of some burned down and otherwise dilapidated, non-running vehicles, TechRax taped a brand new iPhone 14 Pro to the Mercury's interior, and then set about trying to ram it into the other car shells.

On the first attempt the Mercury merely clipped a rusted chassis and appeared as if it was going to run into a power line tower—remember, no brakes!—but, luckily, it eventually stopped. After a reset and adding more car skeletons to the mix, TechRax managed to crash the Mercury two more times, with each successive hit more violent and direct than the last. Each time, as promised the crash detection feature kicked in.

While we do not condone what TechRax pulled off here, as it was hardly the"professional" setup claimed in the video, and no one should actively try setting off crash detection at home, at least the whole exercise took place in a largely empty-looking space.
