JOGO is headed up by Rebelo as CEO, alongside fellow YouTuber Chad Mustard who will be the CCO and veteran Unreal Editor fordeveloper Mark Price as CTO. The trio are unveiling the studio after around a year of covert work, building up a team of around 20 people to create user-generated content experiences, starting withecosystem,” said Rebelo. “We've got some really, really big visions.
“Historically, these games have been built very small by individuals,” said Price. “But what Epic Games did was they took the power of Unreal Engine and said, go make games, and its power is not fully realised yet. So the talent that we need to build the next generation of games comes from the triple-A gaming industry. We need these people, we need these engineers, we need these artists, we need these top-level talent.
“My YouTube channels have taken a hit from the amount of time that I've been spending on this, and I will gladly do that trade,” said Rebelo. “I love doing YouTube, and it's an important part of our marketing arm here as well, I'm passionate about that. But the passion I get from making games, as a lifelong gamer, the passion I get from seeing people play those games is just so phenomenal.
“We see this as a new model for the future,” said Mustard. “It's not the current model where you go out you get $20 million investment and then you have to make a game that you hope can be successful in the next four or five years. We're making games in three months and making a profit off of that. It feels similar to where YouTube was in 2008 or the App Store was when the iPhone came out.
