The issue of youth apathy has been consistently raised in previous municipal elections. The general feeling is that youth are not playing the active role they should be on this front. This, coupled with the issue of ageing councillors, remain hotly debated issues. Last year the Cogta department in KwaZulu-Natal announced plans to incentivise older councillors to exit the system while encouraging younger women to play a more active role in the system.

Khaya has served on the boards of different companies including JSE-listed Stadio Holdings Limited where he chaired the audit committee; and Tshikululu Social Investment’s audit committee. He currently serves on the boards of Lefika La Phodiso where he serves as the board chairperson; the board of the Association of Black Securities and Investment Professionals , and the Financial Sector Transformation Council as board chairperson.

He has interviewed various prominent figures for radio and print assignments including the CEOs and leaders of the JSE; the Standard Bank Group; PWC Africa; the South African Reserve Bank; the South African Broadcasting Corporation; Ivan Glasenberg of Glencore; and Lionel Barber of the Financial Times. Warren is a final year LLB student at Wits University and former student leader and youth activist. He served in various roles in the university including SRC Secretary General.

In 2009 she won the National Press Club Radio Journalist of the Year Award. In 2012, she was selected to take part in the CNN Journalism Fellowship. In 2014, Cathy was selected as a fellow for US President Barack Obama's Young African Leaders Initiative . She was named by Destiny Magazine as one of the “Top 40 women under 40” in 2015. She holds a Politics and International Relations degree from Wits university.
