Mahathir could have gone down in history as a hero but now he will end up as the greatest "loser" in Malaysian political history. If he had passed the baton, I am sure Anwar and Harapan would put up monuments to remember him but self-interest had got the better of him.Former deputy prime minister Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, you are too polite. The greatest betrayal was by Mahathir who did everything he could to stop the reforms as promised by Harapan.
He should also have gotten rid of Azmin about six months ago. Instead, he allowed Azmin to remain, fester and gain support. Harapan will just continue to "harap" and Anwar will break humankind’s record as the "longest-serving prime minister in waiting in the entire universe". Mahathir would just leave things as they are and let Anwar continue his fight and see whether he has the support. If Anwar persists with his nonsense then it is likely that more Harapan MPs will defect as Anwar has no hope to be PM.
It's time to sever ties with the ungrateful Mahathir and any further consideration shall be equal terms. It is Mahathir who failed to hold his part of the bargain and was never sincere in the first place.In Malaysia, so far, there are no candidates suitable to be PM. The Western world allows any citizen to be president/prime minister. Malaysia only allows a Malay to be the PM.
