President Joe Biden signs an executive order in July. While U.S. Sen. John Cornyn recently criticized the president for governing like a king, a reader notes former President Donald Trump signed executive orders at a greater rate. But if you have medical bills you can’t pay, if your electric bill is through the roof, if your wages have been stagnant for years while executive salaries have skyrocketed, think twice about your vote. If your child’s classroom is overcrowded because teachers are leaving the profession, if you fear for your child’s life when you send him or her off to school, consider for whom you are voting.
This all indicates to me that the Proud Boys and the far right have us so frightened that they are running the country. I hope U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland continues to do the right thing, not the expedient thing.A reader celebrates new signage on the city’s greenway trails that should encourage cyclists to slow down.I would like to commend the San Antonio Parks Department for installing the Speed Aware signs on the greenbelt trails.
Councilman Mario Bravo’s plan to use much of that money to address urban heat islands is solid. It returns the money to the community but does so in a way that gets to the root of the problem. People can scoff at planting trees, but this is a proven way to cool an urban space and decrease energy demands in peak times.I have known for a long time that construction workers in desert locales — think Arizona and Nevada — work at night to combat the heat.• Pay schedules are revised.
