A reader thanks District 8 Councilman Manny Peláez for pointing out the importance of male role models in teaching boys how to be real men and reject violence.Re: “How men can reduce domestic violence,” Another View, Sept. 27.

I want to add that all the points he made apply to verbal and emotional abuse as well. In my years as a psychologist, I saw that my male patients with “anger issues” almost always had grown up in households with verbally, if not physically, violent fathers. This year, as we atone for our collective sins — our own and those of our brothers and sisters — I am asking my fellow Jews to dedicate fasts to farm animals.
