I appreciated Jake Coyle’s piece on William Hurt. One film rarely mentioned is “The Doctor,” in which Hurt plays a physician with cancer. Hundreds of my health care students benefited from seeing it.Re: “‘Pounding the rock’ for 26 years led to magical moment,” Sports, Sunday: I’m sitting here enjoying the Spurs win making coach Gregg Popovich the all-time winningest coach in the NBA. But the best was his speech afterward: “All of us share in this record. It’s not mine. It’s ours, here in the city.”
How ironic given all those people who write letters to the editor complaining that Pop should not get involved in politics by giving his two cents on controversial issues, telling him to “just shut up and dribble.” Spare me your drivel! It is refreshing to have a high-profile person with his access to speak his mind. He reminds us all there still is some decency in this world, and democracy is still alive and well in the middle of all this stupidity. Yes, stupidity. Let’s get back to the true character of this country and respect one another.As I look for my morning newspaper in the dark at 7 a.m.
