Skip the airport hotel and spend a night in luxury at Fairlawns Boutique Hotel.

Well, this sure beats killing time at an airport hotel. I’m sitting in a jacuzzi watching the sun burn orange through the trees. Birds are singing above; every so often a brown ibis screams.

Despite the CBD – and the Johannesburg Stock Exchange – being so close, the stunning Fairlawns property sprawls more than two hectares, creating the feeling of being in the grounds of an English manor, and far, far removed from anything else. The spa itself feels like a secret garden – it’s completely removed from the main area, and lined with bamboo, stones, mini buddha statues and other things the hotel’s owners have collected from holidays in Indonesia.

The room is one you could easily spend a day in, with an extra spacious, lavish fitout befitting its Palladian-style exterior. Keeping to a palette of beige and grey, the walls are adorned with ornate mirrors and lamps, while two baroque chandeliers frame the king bed. A fireplace can be lit by staff when it’s chilly.

Villa Moji is the property’s grand standalone residence, and has its own pool, columned patio and private access. And the two-bedroom Tree House suite gives families some privacy in the canopy of the trees.

'They want to clean up her offence she causes,' Mr Dean told Sky News host Andrew Bolt. “If you look at the Enid Blyton stories … she was advocating that childhood or children should spend their time having adventures, adventures of the mind, imagination, out in the woods and having a great time. “Today’s left would like them to sit and watch drag queens.”
