The biggest misunderstanding about the San Francisco Bay Trail might be the idea that it’s one specific trail with a trailhead that you can just start at and go. It’s really more of a route that provides pedestrians and cyclists a way to get around the Bay—and a program that has built trail connections where they were none. While some areas are hugely popular and worth a specific trip, there are certainly many parts of the Bay Trail that are much more utilitarian.
The San Francisco Bay Trail extends down and around the south bay and includes a little side jaunt to a picturesque wooden boardwalk that crosses the shoreline wetlands in Mountain View, Calif.primary goal is to create a shoreline trail along the water for pedestrians and cyclists, said Lee Huo, one of the senior planners on the project. This typically means a paved path separated from the road. But in some places it's not possible to pave near natural habitats or environmentally sensitive areas. In these spots, the Bay Trail is made of dirt or gravel.
