Violette Dorange , at the age of 23, has become the youngest person to ever complete the Vendee Globe , a grueling non-stop solo circumnavigation of the globe. Dorange's arrival at Les Sables d'Olonne, France, on Sunday was met with massive celebrations, a testament to the popularity she gained during her 90-day journey. During her time at sea, Dorange documented her experiences with short videos, handled by her shore team, and amassed a large following on social media.
While she finished nearly a month after Charlie Dalin, who set a new race record, Dorange's achievement was celebrated with equal enthusiasm. She previously sailed across the English Channel and the Strait of Gibraltar in an Optimist dinghy at the age of 15. Dorange, who bought Jean Le Cam's boat, now named DeVenir, for the Vendee Globe, admitted to being unaware of the extent of her support until she returned to land. She plans to take time to rest before returning to the race with the goal of achieving top performance. The Vendee Globe, which covers approximately 24,000 nautical miles (44,500 kilometers), takes sailors around South Africa's Cape of Good Hope, Australia's Cape Leeuwin, and South America's Cape Horn.
