Young people from Alice Springs say racist commentary on a prominent local online community page is making them feel unsafe and fuelling anti-social behaviour.

In recent weeks, discussion has been growing about the potential negative impacts of crime-related content circulating on Alice Springs social media pages. NT Children's Commissioner Shahleena Musk said moderators were responsible for removing any damaging commentary from their pages. "The page has shed light on the horrible problems our youth encounter … how this flows on to our community in general," he said.NT Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro said she was considering "post and boast" laws to clamp down on people sharing their own criminal activity online, but she said the laws would not extend to bystanders who posted others' crimes on social media.
