Concerns have been raised over the death of a young man with a disability who was detained at Perth underground train station on Friday night.

Josh, 24, died shortly after St John Ambulance officers rushed him to Royal Perth Hospital from the William Street train station around 8.20pm on June 16.National disability advocate Samantha Connor told Radio 6PR Josh, who was diagnosed with Sotos syndrome, was detained by Public Transport Authority officers before going into cardiac arrest.

“He was a vulnerable young man, he could need support for aggression if he became frustrated or angry, especially in public places or in noisy places. The family are now seeking answers to what led to the man being detained, and have requested the CCTV footage of the incident.A police investigator who has watched the CCTV footage told Josh’s family there was a verbal altercation with PTA officers as he walked through the turnstile, which included some finger pointing.

“It could have been anyone of our kids, it’s just hit really close to home that there is not enough support.” WA Police inspector Geoff DeSanges said police were investigating the circumstances around the detaining of the man by PTA guards.
