A young man is fighting for life and a woman has been seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash at Strathfield, in Sydney’s Inner West, about 5.15am on Wednesday. Their car collided with a truck on Gould St, shutting down traffic in both directions on the Hume Hwy, but two of three westbound lanes have since been reopened. The 22-year-old man behind the wheel of the car was found with critical injuries, and his female passenger with a suspected broken leg, NSW Police said.
“Firefighters needed to use rescue tools to cut sections of the car away to free the injured driver. While the rescue was underway, firefighters also provided fire protection,” FRNSW said. The man and woman were both taken to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. The male driver of the truck was not injured, but was taken to Auburn Hospital for mandatory testing.
