Google has revealed the winning drawing of its eleventh annual competition, "Doodle for Google," in which K-12 students create a Google Doodle based on what inspires them when they grow up. This year, Arantza Peña Popo, a young Afro-Colombian from Lithonia, Georgia, is the winner.
The Doodle, which appears today on the google.com homepage in the U.S., was inspired by Peña Popo's dream of being able to one day help her mother to do all the things in life that she has not yet been able to do, such as traveling the world. “My mom was the main inspiration of this Doodle -- she worked hard to get ahead and I thank her for all her sacrifices,” Peña Popo said. "And also a picture in my house of my mother and my sister when I was a baby -- the photo is a symbol of the care and love we receive from her."
The group of judges of the Doodle for Google 2019 competition included Mandy Manning, the “National Teacher of the Year 2018," Kermit the Frog, andAs the winner, Arantza Peña Popo will receive a $30,000 scholarship, a trip to San Francisco, $50,000 to establish or improve a computer lab or technology program in the U.S., a Chromebook computer and an Android tablet.
