The commute that Joe claims to have in London in You season 4 would take over 9 hours to complete.
You season 4 part 1 has been called out for its wildly incorrect geography. The series, which is adapted from the Caroline Kepnes novel series of the same name, follows Joe Goldberg as he stalks various women in different locations including New York City, Los Angeles, and the fictional Northern California suburb of Madre Linda.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Today, Netflix UK & Ireland posted on their official Twitter account calling out this You season 4 part 1 scene for its factual inaccuracies. Included with a quote from Joe saying he doesn't mind the walk is a map that traces his path from Royal Holloway University to South Kensington, where he lives. The Google ETA service reveals that taking this route on foot would actually take more than nine hours, rendering it an impossible commute even for a skilled stalker.
Ultimately, geography doesn't exist in films and television in the way it does in real life. The majority of interiors are shot on soundstages where the exterior doors and stairways either lead to nowhere or a large warehouse space. Scenes where characters travel from one room to another can actually take place in completely different buildings.
Projects are also limited by what real-life locations they're allowed to film in, as permission as well as the budget and ability to clear the space and fill it with cameras and extras. Due to how complicated it is to get a real-life location onscreen, even popular shows like You have to fudge what they show onscreen. Productions hope viewers will be too swept up in the story to notice any geographical inconsistencies.
