, they’re providing parents with tips on what to look out for before posting.
The first is avoid sharing personal details about your child because more often than not, back-to-school photos involve kids holding a board with their full name, age, height, and other details. What you may not be aware of is the fact that scammers or predators could use this information to commit identity theft or earn your child’s trust.
Another tip the Better Business Bureau recommends is leaving off information about kids’ schools. The reason to that is sharing the name of your child’s school, teacher, or grade level could make them a target for unscrupulous people. Also, these details are often used as security questions for banking or credit card accounts.
The Better Business Bureau is also advising parents to double check their privacy settings where you can review your social media account’s privacy settings regularly. Parents should be mindful of whom can view their posts so it may be a good idea to remove personal information from the account that others can see, such as your telephone number or address.
Finally, watch out for phony friend requests. Don’t accept friend requests from strangers and also, think twice before you accept a friend request from someone you are already connected with because it can be an imposter trying to access your information and friends list.
