Some have changed the way they shop as the new school year approaches.

Free haircuts also were offered at the event, held at the district’s alternative campus and special education department building.
Though Ortiz has a full-time job as a medical biller, she said rising prices have her looking for a second part-time job. Starting in the early 2000s, Kennedy has been buying supplies throughout the year, taking advantage of any good discounts and coupons as they come up. That way, her budget isn’t stretched by a big burst of shopping, and the family has what it needs when the school year rolls around.Saturday afternoon, Kennedy was shopping with her 12-year-old daughter, Aurora Garcia, for the last handful of items their family needed for the upcoming year.
