Going to a religious retreat can be quite an experience for a teenager. From the holy tunes to the moral teachings, these retreats serve to instill unadulterated ethics in the young who are still navigating puberty and their own sexuality, which they are taught to view with shame. Karen Maine's feature film debut, Yes, God, Yes , is a funny, coming-of-age film starring Stranger Things' Natalia Dyer, who plays Alice, a Catholic school teenager who has just discovered masturbation.
Today, so many people are still being condemned for living openly because of their sex and gender. Religion is used to guilt and implement fear in the young, and anyone considered different, like the LGBTQ+ community. They berate them for having sex before marriage, not dressing modestly, having abortions, and going outside the religious standards that they preach.

Her sex education class in her Catholic high school was taught by a Deacon who would walk around with a framed photo of Jesus's bloody face with a thorn crown to instill fear in the students to not drink alcohol.
