The man who broke into a Wawona vacation home in Yosemite National Park has been sentenced to more than 5 years in prison.
A man who broke into a vacation home in Yosemite National Park and lived there for months has been sentenced to more than five years in prison, according to a press release issued by the U.S. Attorney's Office. During the summer of 2021, 29-year-old Devin Michael Cuellar illegally entered a residence on Koon Hollar Road in the Wawona area of the national park. He was also in possession of a sawed-off shotgun and ammunition while at the property, according to court documents.
The National Park Service and other agencies carried out the investigation, and a federal judge sentenced Cuellar on Monday to five years and three months in prison. There's a long history of visitors outstaying their welcome in Yosemite National Park, but many of them live outdoors, in and around historic Camp 4. The most famous person to squat in Yosemite, Chongo Chuck, resided in the park for over a decade. He was evicted by rangers in 2005.
