The Northeastern School District is the latest in Central PA to hire the firm "ZeroEyes" to help detect firearms in schools.

The company uses artificial intelligence, in tandem with cameras already installed at the school to identify potential weapons in real-time and and alert first responders if necessary. On Wednesday, CBS 21 spoke to the COO of "ZeroEyes" Rob Huberty, who described the software. Basically if the A.I. identifies a potential weapon the image is sent back to a command center, which is staffed 24/7 by military and law enforcement veterans who make the final determination on whether it is a gun. If they determine that it is a weapon they will dispatch alerts to the school and local law enforcement.

Huberty said this software is being used by hundreds of schools across the country. He said thanks to the detection work they do dozens of arrests have also been made."Knowing that the cameras are being monitored for guns, can perhaps make you at ease a little bit so you can teach better. So that, maybe if a student is having a bad day you can go to them and be like hey what's the matter, instead of you being stressed out and task saturated.

Northeastern S.D. is the second in Central PA to hire ZeroEyes. The Susquenita Township School District announced it's partnership with ZeroEyes back in October.Stay Connected
