The man told his girlfriend and an arresting officer they would 'end up like' three detectives killed in York County earlier this year.

A York County man who was arrested for setting a fire told his girlfriend and an arresting officer they would “end up like Northern York County Regional Police were dispatched just after 7:45 p.m. on Nov.

29, to the 3100 block of Carlisle Road in Dover Township for a backyard shed fire. Officers then spoke with a man on the property, later identified as 31-year-old Christian Meiler, who was visibly intoxicated, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed against him. Meiler told officers, “I hate Northern York County Regional,” and said, “If you were York City, I would talk to you, but you aren’t.” Investigators arrested Meiler for risking catastrophe, a third-degree felony, and administered a preliminary breath test that found he had a blood alcohol level of 0.177. While driving to York County Central Booking, the transporting officer said Meiler became agitated while making derogatory remarks about the slain Northern York County Regional Police detectives. “I hate every single one of you. I hope you end up like Becker, Emenheiser and Baker,” Meiler told the officer. “Your day is coming, buddy, you are going to be just like them.” The officer did not initially respond to the comments, prompting Meiler to say, “Oh, you knew them, huh?” the affidavit said. Meiler then started to “violently” kick the dividing window of the police cruiser while screaming, “Let me the out.” At one point, the officer said he believed that Meiler might successfully break the divider and attempt to stage an attack. Meiler was charged with risking catastrophe, terroristic threats and four violations of the Dover Township burning ordinance. The following day, a different Northern York County Regional Police officer was dispatched to the same neighborhood to investigate a domestic assault that had taken place an hour before Meiler was arrested for the fire. The victim, Meiler’s girlfriend, said she went to Meiler’s home around 6 p.m. on Nov. 29. The couple then got into an argument about a previous relationship of hers. The victim said she tried to leave after Meiler threw a controller in her direction. When she went for the door, Meiler tossed her to the ground and tried to take her phone. As the pair fought over the phone, Meiler slapped the victim in the face as she yelled, “call 911,” in hopes a neighbor would hear her. Meiler then took the victim upstairs and locked her in a dark bedroom without her phone while threatening her life. “You know what happened to the Northern Regionals the other week? That’s what’s going to happen to you,” Meiler told the victim. Meiler also spat in her face and suffocated the victim with his hands and a pillow, making it difficult for her to breathe, she told police. She said this continued for what felt like two minutes. Meiler stopped attacking the victim when he noticed the shed outside had caught fire. He then ran outside and called 911. The victim said she did not speak with police that night because she was frightened for her life and wanted to leave the home. Police filed additional charges of strangulation, unlawful restraint, terroristic threats, false imprisonment, simple assault and harassment. According to court documents, Meiler’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 22. He is incarcerated in the York County Prison with his bail denied.Madison Montag is the nightside public safety reporter at PennLive.
