The York County SPCA is without power after Tuesday night's storms, and is asking for the publics help in finding emergency foster homes.

The CBS 21 First Warning Weather Team has declared today a Weather Watch Day due to the chance of gusty thunderstorms. The York County SPCA is without power after Tuesday night's storms, and is asking for the publics help in finding emergency foster homes for its canine population as they try to evacuate the shelter. In a press release, the SPCA says it doesn't anticipate having power back until the weekend, so they're trying to get the dogs out of the SPCA as soon as possible.

The shelter and the spay/neuter clinic lost power due to the storms. It says the top concern right now is the well-being of the dogs there, especially in the heat and humidity conditions. The SPCA says it needs emergency foster homes, even if its just for 2 or 3 days until power is restored. The SPCA provides all necessary resources for foster parents, including food, toys, crates, medication, and more.

The kennel is currently partially quarantined for canine parvovirus, but the SPCA says most dogs in its care are fully vaccinated and not at risk for transmitting the virus. If you're interested in fostering and have other dogs at home, the SPCA recommends your dogs are up to date with the DHPP vaccine for parvovirus. All positive and high-risk dogs are currently separated from the general canine population, making the risk of transmitting and contracting lower, according to the SPCA.
