Homes cost double the national average – and rent isn’t cheap either.
Known for its rolling hills, beautiful beaches and lush local vineyards, San Luis Obispo was once ranked as one of theSan Luis Obispo County is now the second least affordable small metro area in the entire nation, according to thePorch, the home improvement and home-buying website that the Tribune gathered this data from, discovered that the overall cost of living in SLO County was 9.5% above than the national average – just after Napa, where the overall cost of living is roughly 11.
According to the Tribune, as part of its analysis, Porch looked at the area’s Consumer Price Index , which measures prices for basic necessities such as food, utilities, transportation, clothing and housing. What they found was that SLO County’s cost of housing was about 51.7% higher than the national average, ranking it as a small metro area with the fourth-highest housing cost in the United States.
