After the dinner made a splash in China and was written up by a food blogger, the US treasury secretary was asked about her “mushroom experience”.

Now, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen is saying that yes, she ate mushrooms that might have had hallucinogenic properties - but she didn’t actually get high from them.

Domnauer notes that while Americans and other westerners might prize such a mushroom because of its psychedelic qualities, the locals value it for its flavour - which he describes as umami-laden and porcini-like, albeit a bit less nutty.“There’s a difference in cultural attitude about the psychoactive effect - it’s like the food itself is more important than this property,” he says.

And indeed, she said, “all of us enjoyed the mushrooms, the restaurant, and none of us felt any ill effects.”Domnauer recently visited Yunnan to collect samples, and he, too, dined on the local delicacy at a hot pot restaurant. There, the staff set out a timer and instructed diners to cook the mushrooms in the boiling liquid for at least 15 minutes before eating it, he said, adding that nobody experienced any hallucinations.

Analysis has not turned up psilocybin, which is the stuff commonly found in most “magic mushrooms” that makes them a popular recreational drug.

Rita Panahi praises ‘fierce dignity’ of Price amid Yes camp’s ‘taste for targeting women’Rita Panahi praises ‘fierce dignity’ of Price amid Yes camp’s ‘taste for targeting women’Yes advocates seem to “have a taste for targeting women” and there is no bigger target for them than Senator Price who has had to withstand the most dreadful vitriol and threats to fight for what's right, says Sky News host Rita Panahi. “Sadly for Jacinta, what's right is not always popular with the media or the activist class who too often set the narrative in this country,” Ms Panahi said. 'If she had railed against Australia Day and the flag and pushed divisive race-based policies, well she'd be celebrated as a heroine, but Jacinta has the temerity to speak about what she has seen and experienced; consequential issues that can't be readily blamed on 'colonisation' or 'white privilege'. “In the face of such ugliness, Price has maintained a quiet but fierce dignity. She won't be bullied into silence, she won't be intimidated into inaction. She is her mother's daughter.”
